Using electric fencing is a perfect way of keeping predators out and your chickens in. If you are worried about your chickens - hens will suffer effects from the electric fence then you don't need to be, chickens are bright birds and will quickly learn not to get too close.

The electric fence is available in both 25 or 50 metres with a height of 110 centimetres. This is perfect as you easily have the ability to move the fence from one place to another, allowing your hens to have regular fresh patches of grass whilst the old patch recovers.

There are two power sources for the fence, a 12V battery or 220V from the mains. The electric fencing kits come complete with an earth spike, dual power energiser, four sturdy corner posts along with the actual netting. The 50m fence uses an HLC80 energiser and the 25m fence uses the HLC40 model. Thats the technicals out of the way and probably the most difficult thing to learn about the fence, a complete novice can assemble and have the poultry electric fence up and running in no time.

Important points about the poultry electric fence:
• All electric fencing kits are powered wither by a 12V battery or 220V mains
• If you are intending on running your chicken fence from the battery power supply then you will need to purchase a 12V battery and have the means to recharge it. You can buy a battery from Halfords or somewhere similar.
• With a battery that has been fully charged you should have roughly a 4 week life span before the battery needs to be recharged.
